Community Directory Website
Mount Alexander Community Directory is a knowledge hub and a directory for all not-for-profit organisations within the Mount Alexander Shire, built to empower the local community. Our client, Mount Alexander Shire Council, wanted to build an online community directory for the not-for-profit organisations in and around Castlemaine. Its purpose was to offer convenience to its residents by providing easy access to local services and resources; a central knowledge hub that encourages the community to benefit from engaging with the services available to them within their local area.
The Brief
Connect Mount Alexander is a community directory website, built scaleable as new organisations join and information is updated by volunteer groups and Council staff. By providing face-to-face training and employing intuitive and accessible software, assigned admin staff can make updates and manage the site in-house.
We also developed a simple search and filter bar on the home page enabling users to search by category, organisation, or keyword, to find everything from small volunteer groups to large service organisations.
We incorporated membership forms to allow logged-in members to update their organisation profile and submit content to make visible to the public. To maximise usability, email addresses and phone numbers are rendered – meaning you can touch-to-call mobile numbers and email messages on all devices. Address information is also rendered as a pin on Google Maps in a sidebar widget for easy navigation.
