We built the site to with a clear and simple design and easy to navigate layout. Menu items and call to action buttons are colour coded to be easily identifiable and sequential for all levels of literacy and technology experience.
Overlapping colours in the form of different washes and transparencies were chosen to symbolise diverse aspects of the community coming together; the creation of new colours as the washes merge symbolises the inevitable good that comes from welcoming cross community connection.
To ground the directory in the local geography, our designer selected colours from the natural environment around Mount Alexander; green from the bush, purple and ochre from rocks and soil, the land and nature.
A whole new branding package was designed to include a logo, colour palette, typography, graphics, social media images, brochures and postcards. We built the directory with customised graphics and images of the Mount Alexander area.
We produced a style manual of the design work in case the client needs to commission more in the future. This way we assist them to keep their branding and look consistent.
Connect Mount Alexander is built to expand with new listings and information that will be needed over time. By using WordPress and providing on the job training, admin staff at Mount Alexander Shire can make updates and manage the site in-house.
By incorporating a readable and obvious search and filter bar on the Home page users can search by category, organisation or keyword to find everything from small volunteer groups to large service organisations.
We have incorporated membership forms allowing logged in members to update their organisation profile and submit content that is visible to the public. Memberships also include links to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts.
To maximise usability, email addresses and phone numbers are rendered to facilitate touch to call on mobiles and email messages on all devices. Address information is rendered as a pin on Google Maps in a sidebar widget.
A centralised calendar of events has been incorporated into the directory so members can post events, course dates, council meetings and announcements, and the public can stay informed of happenings and increasing participation rates.
